Linux version got tagged 3.0-rc1 by Linus Torvalds. So lets expect a new life for the Linux Kernel.
As far i know there is no major architecture change in the kernel. This is just another version from the current 2.6 kernel, instead of tagging 2.8, it went to Linux 3.0-rc1. We will see how the Linux community take it forward.
Why it got tagged, when there is no major Kernel architecture change ? Hope when the Linux 3, stable release comes we have some new stuff to talk about.

Even there are no technical changes, this version number changes may help in marketing side. For marketing people this may look like a whole new software.
